Statement

Current work is an investigation of patterning, with a specific interest in moire patterns. it is possible to observe such patterns in nature, though much more easily seen in the man-made environment, either way it is a fascinating moment when visual rhythms intersect in such a way that new and unintended patterns emerge. to me this suggests that there is beauty, or at least structure, that is present but most often unseen. all around us, all of the time.

Simultaneously, i have been curiously exploring the way extremely simple manipulations of pattern can clearly indicate form. like the folds in a rumpled blanket, which give an otherwise flat article a dimensional quality that happens to also archive the gesture that created that rumple. in a way, patterns and their disruptions are a description of time itself. exploring these gestures and patterns in their simplest manipulations, is a curiosity about what gives things meaning – peering closely to observe the moment when form emerges from the otherwise flat experience of things. returning again to the notion that blissful beauty is freely available to us if we are willing to take note of it and experience it simply.
